Hitachi Rail has developed a smartphone app called “GoGoGe,” which offers a hands-free and seamless transportation experience. The app, jointly developed with Azienda Mobilità e Trasporti (AMT), allows users in Genoa, Italy, to avail of mobility-as-a-service and access subways, buses, funiculars, lifts, and car-sharing with a single app. It utilizes Bluetooth beacons to track user movement and offers real-time congestion information.
Users can activate tickets hands-free, and the fare payment is calculated based on the best pricing option for the day. The app was developed during the COVID-19 pandemic to encourage people to use public transport again, and it has undergone successful proof-of-concept testing. The city of Genoa is now considering deploying the app to the general public, and there are plans to expand its usage to other regions.
The app’s features promote convenience, sustainability, and an enjoyable smart mobility experience for users.
