My colleagues and I across Hitachi have been discussing the impact of AI on our R&D, our product development, and future, for some time. We’ve been vocal about our substantial investments in the area, which span from our Tokyo headquarters across the world through our Group companies.

In 2024, for example, we developed the Hitachi Group Common Generative AI Platform, a development framework designed to improve the productivity of software engineers and front-line workers. We’re applying the platform to in-house as well as contracted development projects, alike, to improve the efficiency of system development thorough utilization of GenAI.

Our group companies have also been aggressive with development this past year. Hitachi Energy launched its AI-powered energy forecasting system, Nostradamus AI – a purpose-built AI engine for the energy industry that can generate forecasts estimated to be over 20 percent more accurate than some industry targets. Hitachi Rail in conjunction with NVIDIA and Hitachi Digital, released the HMAX (Hyper Mobility Asset Expert) all-in-one digital asset management platform to help transport operators optimize trains, signaling and infrastructure management. Hitachi Vantara released its Hitachi iQ with the NVIDIA HGX™ platform, an end-to-end solution stack of fast, scalable, and resilient infrastructure for modern AI systems. These advances, and more, came amid a flurry of major AI partnerships Hitachi signed with such leaders as, Microsoft, Google, NVIDIA, and AWS in 2024. And lest we forget, in November, GlobalLogic, a Hitachi Group company, was named a leader in Generative AI Services, by Information Services Group, a global technology research and advisory firm.

Leaping from the CES Starting Gate

I am excited where we are as a company and thrilled to build on this momentum in 2025. And I can’t think of a better place to start the year off than at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). I remember reading about CES early in my career. Back then, the event was held in various places a couple of times a year in the U.S. and served as a grand stage for all things home electronics, gadgets, and gaming. It was there, among the miles of aisles, for example, where people first heard of the Atari console, the VCR, and Madden Football. Over the years, the CES organization settled on location and timing – annually in Las Vegas – but expanded in scope, little by little to include increasing levels of digital innovation as the lines between consumer and business tech began to blur.

This week, Hitachi will be among the scores of enterprise and industrial technology companies on the ground at CES, all vying for the attention of the new digital audience, one that’s keenly aware of – and strategizing for – AI and generative AI (GenAI).

For our part, we’ll have half a dozen Hitachi group companies at the event, all sharing a single booth and an overarching story of digital innovation that highlights the incredible power of “One Hitachi.” From there, we’ll showcase the very latest in digital engineering services, advanced global cyber security services and robust cloud and IT/OT integration services, all infused with AI and GenAI by design. These real-world innovations are purpose-built for industries ranging from automotive, energy, and manufacturing to technology, communications, and media.

The Hitachi experience at CES is deliberately segmented into four critical areas: Digital, Energy & Sustainability, Industrial Automation, and R&D.

  • Under the Digital banner, you’ll see a range of innovations, from Software-Defined Automotive Vehicle Engineering and Advanced Driver Automation Systems (ADAS) to Video Analytics and Computer Vision systems, and from IoT and AI/ML-based Smart Factory solutions to Intelligent Digital Engineering Services and Digital Innovation.
  • In our Energy & Sustainability section, you’ll find an array of advanced solutions for electric transportation, including our Lithium-ion Battery Lifecycle ecosystem management system, which enables re-use of Li-ion battery packs.
  • Within the Industrial Automation section, you’ll see exciting solutions that can help manufacturers improve effectiveness through advanced automation and robotics, as well as for business and production system integration.
  • And within the R&D section, you’ll be treated to views into our extensive work in GenAI and AI in industrials, including Industrial Metaverse Applications, GenAI-based Diagnostics, and AR and AI-Driven Visual Inspections.

Of course, this short list only scratches the surface of all that Hitachi pours into digital innovation, and there’s far more that will be available to learn about within our booth at CES. But, once again, I couldn’t be more excited about our company’s progress to this point and what the future holds for Hitachi, our customers, and our partners in 2025. Bringing Hitachi together as One this week will demonstrate our commitment to innovation and partnership in helping customers achieve their goals in the new year and beyond.
